Four species of Medinilla Gaudich. ex DC. are reported from Peninsular India. All are endemic and confined to the southern Western Ghats. Medinilla sahyadrica is described as new. It is a species wrongly identified as M. fuschioides, a taxon confined to Sri Lanka and reported as new record for India from this region. Nomenclature, description, illustration and distributional map of these species are provided. Vegetative and reproductive characters were analyzed in detail and used to key out the species.
