Focus and Scope
Rheedea, the official journal of the Indian Association for Angiosperm Taxonomy (IAAT), focuses on the following core areas:
Plant Taxonomy and Systematics
- Comprehensive studies on the classification, description, and identification of plant species.
- Revisionary work and monographs of plant genera or families.
- Taxonomic novelties such as the discovery of new species, new records, and new combinations. Rheedea do not accept new records to states.
Floristics and Vegetation Studies
- Floristic surveys and inventories from various geographical regions.
- Documentation and analysis of plant diversity in specific habitats or ecosystems.
- Regional and national checklists of vascular plants, including endemism and threatened species assessments.
Phytogeography and Biogeography
- Research on the geographical distribution of plants and their historical, evolutionary, and ecological drivers.
- Studies exploring plant migration, dispersal patterns, and endemism, particularly in the Indian subcontinent and neighboring regions.
Plant Morphology, Anatomy, and Cytology
- Morphological, anatomical, and cytological studies of angiosperms contributing to understanding of the plant structure, development, and evolutionary relationships and their significance in plant systematics and taxonomy.
Palynology and Micromorphology
- Research on pollen, seed, and fruit micromorphology and their significance in taxonomy and plant systematics.
Conservation and Ecology
- Research on the conservation status of plants, particularly rare, endangered, or endemic species.
- Studies on plant ecology, including community structure, species interactions, and ecosystem functioning.
Molecular Taxonomy and Phylogenetics
- Research applying molecular techniques such as DNA sequencing and phylogenetic analyses to understand plant evolutionary relationships, population genetics, and species delimitation.
Nomenclature and Typification
- Contributions addressing nomenclatural issues, typification of names, and discussions on the application of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN).
Reviews and Perspectives
- Review articles that synthesize current knowledge in any of the above-mentioned fields of plant taxonomy, systematics, and related areas.
- Perspectives and opinion pieces that explore emerging trends, challenges, and future directions in plant sciences.
Obituaries
- Tributes to prominent botanists and taxonomists whose contributions have significantly impacted the field of plant sciences. Obituaries reflect on their careers, achievements, and legacies in advancing botanical research.
Book Reviews
- Critical reviews of recent publications related to plant taxonomy, systematics, conservation, ethnobotany, and other relevant fields. The journal encourages reviews that provide valuable insights into the content, significance, and contributions of new literature to the scientific community.
Rheedea welcomes high-quality original research articles, short communications, reviews, and book reviews that advance knowledge in the field of plant taxonomy and systematics, with a particular emphasis on the flora of the Indian subcontinent and tropical regions worldwide.
